MIGUEL C. MENDOZA, MD, FPCS, FPALES
It is indeed with great honor and privilege to welcome each and every one of you to the 11th Annual Convention of the Philippine Association of Laparoscopic and Endoscopic Surgeons for the year 2021. We are in the most challenging times as a result of this pandemic crisis that we are currently facing. The future is uncertain and yet we choose to continue to be optimistic and rise to the challenge to make our lives and the lives of others better in every which way we can to the best of our abilities. Securing our future and ensuring the continuing safety of our patients and the delivery of quality surgical care still remain as one of our priorities as surgeons in the land.
Our theme for our 2021 annual convention is very aptly called “PALES 2021: Future-Proof.” Future-proofing is defined as the process of anticipating the future and developing methods of minimizing the effects of shocks and stresses of future events. The value and relevance of this has been realized as a result of the unprecedented pandemic crisis we are in today. What should we do?
I have learned in the past and still firmly believe to this day that the key to the successful future-proofing of minimally invasive surgery is to work together in achieving a common goal and that is to ensure the quality of the delivery of surgical care in the least invasive fashion that is safe, efficient and effective through the continued execution of various time-tested strategies of education, training, and research. Collaboration at its finest will be clearly evident during this annual convention as we work together with various local and international societies and surgical specialists in the field of minimally invasive surgery . The very well-prepared sessions in this meeting will give everyone the opportunity to learn on how the various facets of future-proofing will not only benefit our lives as surgeons, but more importantly the lives of the patients we serve in our respective communities in the generations to come.
On behalf of the Board of Directors of the Philippine Association of Laparoscopic and Endoscopic Surgeons, I would like to wish everyone a fruitful and enjoyable convention. I would also like to extend our heartfelt appreciation to the hard-working organizing committees, for coming up with a truly relevant annual convention for this year.
Let us all continue to support the activities and advocacies of PALES and go out of our way and embrace the culture of the need to do more . . . as a PALES way of life.
Maraming Salamat po.
