Zero BDI Campaign

     The Philippine Association of Laparoscopic and Endoscopic Surgeons, our society, launched an initiative which we call the PALES2020 Zero BDI in 2017. Since then, we are able to visit different localities in the Philippines with the goals of standardizing the technique of laparoscopic cholecystectomy and creating an awareness in achieving the Critical View of Safety(CVS). Since the launch of this PALES-led initiative, the ZERO BDI committee members have already accrued miles in scouring almost the entire nation in promoting safe laparoscopic cholecystectomy.

     In spite of its toll on the members’ family time, academic works, various society responsibilities and clinical practice, we the committee, were graciously welcomed with open arms in all the ports, cities and municipalities we have visited. 

     Worth mentioning is our campaign in Tuguegarao City. We were booked to fly in the morning of March 12, 2020. Before President Duterte announced the lockdown, we already held the first virtual ZEROBDI Campaign. I guess Lady Luck was on our side because we were supposed to go to Tuguegarao to usher in another full year of activities for the year 2020.
