Choledochoscopy

Course Overview:

1.  Total number of participants (30) will be expected to perform tasks provided in the workshop.

2.  There will be five stations for the whole duration of the workshop. Six (6) participants will be assigned per station.

3.  Each station shall comprise of different choledochoscopic exercises both on inanimate and animal tissue models.

4.  All the materials needed for the completion of the exercises will be provided on site.

5.  The workshop will be broadcasted simultaneously with other workshops by PALES.

Specific Objectives:

At the end of the workshop, participants must be able to:

1.  Understand the basic indications of choledochoscopy

2.  Familiarize with the parts, controls and manipulation of a choledochoscope (proper handling and care, knob functions and orientation).

3.  Gain adequate skills in performing choledochoscopic stone basket extraction (through inanimate and animal tissue models) and laparoscopic common bile duct exploration and T-Tube placement.

Learning Outcomes:

1.  Acquisition of basic knowledge of choledochoscopy and its indications

2.  Awareness of the critical skills and safety steps in the basic use of choledochoscopy and its application

3.  Adept performance of:

a.  Basic choledochoscopic skills and its application ie. stone basket extraction

b.  Laparoscopic skills and technique in performing choledochotomy and T-tube placement
